The Importance of GPS Tracking

GPS Tracking

Automobile theft has been a major concern over the last few years. Vehicles from Lexus, Toyota, Kia, and Hyundai have been key targets for criminals. Aside from a premium security system, GPS tracking is the best investment if you hope to get a stolen vehicle returned. Let’s look at the automotive theft process and explain how a locating device can help get your car or truck back into your driveway.

Auto Thefts

There are a few ways that thieves steal modern vehicles. Some use a relay attack to capture signals from your key fob in your home and unlock the doors. From there, thieves connect to the vehicle’s computer systems, add a new key fob, and drive away in near silence. Top tip: Don’t keep your keys near the front door of your house.

When the bad guys can’t relay the unlock codes from your keys to the vehicle, they have to resort to more invasive processes. They may smash a window and climb through. They are smart enough to know not to open a door, as that will trigger most factory-installed security systems. Once in, they program a new key fob and are on their way. The entire process takes only a few minutes, and brazen thieves commit their dastardly deeds even in broad daylight.

What Happens to a Stolen Vehicle?

Most thieves follow a simple process once the vehicle is stolen. They drive it out of the city it was stolen from and park it in a public place for a day or so. Why? They are checking whether there is a tracking system that will lead the police to the vehicle. One of our team members who listens to police scanners has heard law enforcement follow a stolen vehicle about 40 miles, only to find it parked at a recreation center a few cities away. This process is called “cooling off.”

If, after a day or so, the vehicle hasn’t moved, the thieves either drive it to a chop shop or place it in a container for shipment out of the country.

What About Factory-Installed Tracking?

Most new cars, trucks and SUVs have some form of smartphone-based keyless entry and vehicle-locating system. Aren’t these enough to get your car back? The short answer is no. Thieves know exactly how these systems work and where components like the antenna are located. They disable these either before the vehicle is stolen or when it’s parked to wait. Don’t underestimate the effort bad guys put into preparing to steal a vehicle.

Aftermarket Vehicle Tracking Solutions

It’s safest to assume that criminals know everything about the cars they want to steal. As such, the only way to get your car back is to use an aftermarket tracking device. Firstech, the manufacturer of the Drone telematics system, has recently launched a product designed specifically to track new cars, trucks, SUVs, boats, personal watercraft and powersports equipment – the Drone XT. Drone XT is a smart tracking solution that works with the DroneMobile smartphone app and website to let you keep tabs on your belongings.

Having a Drone XT installed in your car or truck lets you check your vehicle’s location in seconds. Just open the app or visit the website, and you’ll know where the vehicle is located. You can even see a breadcrumb trail of where it’s been, had it been moving.

What sets Drone XT apart from other options? First, it will alert you when the vehicle moves. There’s a small geofence around the parked location, so you won’t be annoyed by small variances caused by GPS signal strength variations. If the system is hardwired to the vehicle via the included USB-C cable, you’ll receive a notification when the engine starts or shuts off.

The system incorporates several environmental sensors that will also trigger alerts on the owner’s smartphone. There’s temperature, humidity and even a light sensor. When any of these detect an abrupt change, you’ll know about it seconds later.

GPS Tracking
Aside from location tracking, the Drone XT includes temperature, humidity and light sensors that deliver instant alerts to the owner.

While we are focusing on auto theft, the Drone XT is a perfect solution for motorcycles, boats or a trailer, thanks to its built-in 2,200 mAh battery pack. The system can operate for up to three weeks in Energy Saving mode. It lasts for up to 10 months in Deep Sleep mode. If you are worried about someone stealing a motorcycle while you are on a road trip, Drone XT is a perfect solution.

GPS Tracking
Motorcycle thefts are common, especially when left outdoors. GPS tracking is a good investment to protect your ride.

The Importance of Proper Installation

You may recall that we emphasized how well thieves know the wiring in the cars and trucks they steal. If you have a tracking solution installed, it’s only as effective if the bad guys don’t find it. For example, power wires tapped into the fuse panel will lead criminals to the tracking device’s location, making it easy to defeat.

As with any automotive accessory upgrade, you need to be picky about who works on your vehicle. You want to choose a shop that will take the time to integrate all the wiring into the factory harnesses, using the same cloth or vinyl tapes the vehicle manufacturer uses. You’ll want to ensure that a mounting location is chosen that conceals the unit from view, even if access panels are removed, or major components like the radio are removed from the dash. Skimping on a high-quality installation can render the solution useless.

Protect Your Vehicle with a GPS-Based Tracking System

If you are worried about someone stealing your vehicle or weekend toys, then visit a local authorized Drone retailer and ask about having a Drone XT installed. You can find a retailer near you using the locator tool on the Dronemobile.com website.

Be sure to follow the DroneMobile team on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to learn more about the vehicle security and convenience solutions they offer.

Product Spotlight: Drone XT GPS Tracker

Drone XT

Protecting your vehicles or equipment has never been more important, and a GPS tracking system is one of the smartest upgrades you can make. The new Drone XT from Firstech gives owners a simple and effective way to monitor the location of their car, truck or powersports vehicle in real time. Whether you want added security against theft or want to keep tabs on valuable equipment, a professional-grade tracking solution can improve your chances of quickly recovering your property. Let’s take a closer look at the new Drone XT tracking system.

What is the Drone XT?

Drone XT is a self-contained GPS tracking solution that features an integrated battery for stand-alone operation. Unlike Bluetooth devices like AirTags, the Drone XT operates completely independently from other devices like a smartphone, so you can always check its location from the app or website.

The Drone XT includes a USB-C hardwire power cable that your installer can integrate with the vehicle to power the system and indicate when the ignition is on. There’s also a dual-ended USB-C cable for charging the unit in stand-alone mode. For convenience, four high-strength neodymium magnets are integrated into the base of the unit. If you have heavy equipment to monitor, you can simply attach the Drone XT, and you are good to go.

Drone XT
High-strength neodymium magnets integrated into the chassis make installation easy in heavy equipment.

Full-Time GPS Tracking System

The Drone XT works with the Dronemobile.com website and smartphone app. You can locate your vehicle anytime you want, as long as you have access to the Internet. You don’t need to involve the police or call a phone number. You’ll know the solution is working as soon as you power it up. If you can’t check the location of your GPS tracking system, do you even know if it’s working?

When the unit is moving, the Drone system tracks location with a breadcrumb trail that updates every minute or 30 seconds, depending on the service plan you’ve chosen. Not only can you see where the device is, but where it’s been. This is great as a tracking solution for company-owned service or delivery vehicles.

Drone XT
Using the DroneMobile website or application on your smartphone, you can check the location of the Drone XT anytime you want.

Low-Power Operation

Firstech engineers have gone to great lengths to maximize the built-in battery’s longevity. The system combines a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with a state-of-the-art LTE Cat M1 cellular radio. Unlike conventional cellular radios, the LTE Cat M1 is designed specifically for low-power IoT devices like the Drone XT.

The Drone XT has power-saving modes to further extend the battery’s life. The unit doesn’t update GPS location or communicate with the DroneMobile server unless it detects motion. The “Wake on Movement” feature has a five-meter buffer, so even shifts in GPS location due to signal strength variations won’t trigger communication. If someone moves the vehicle or piece of equipment, you will be notified immediately.

The 2,200 mAh battery will last up to 3 weeks in Energy-Saving mode and up to 10 months in Deep Sleep mode.

Drone XT
The Drone XT is ideal for tracking cars, trucks, boats, powersports vehicles or commercial equipment.

Integrated Environment Monitoring

The Drone XT GPS tracker includes three additional sensors that can be configured to provide alerts to the owner. There’s a temperature sensor that provides notifications for changes by a user-configurable number of degrees. Likewise, a humidity sensor monitors moisture in the air and sends an alert if that changes by a certain percentage. Finally, there’s a light sensor that’ll tell you if someone is snooping around with a flashlight. These alerts show up almost instantly as notifications on your smartphone.

Protection For Unique Applications

The Drone XT GPS tracker is an affordable, convenient way to monitor your car or truck. However, its applications extend much farther. If you have a side-by-side, ATV or motorcycle you want to monitor, the Drone XT is perfect. Your boat, personal watercraft or trailer is also a great application for the compact tracking solution. Did we mention the unit has an IP67 rating for water and dust intrusion?

If you have a service or delivery vehicle and need to monitor its location, Drone XT is a perfect solution. You’ll know when the ignition turns on or off, where it’s located and what stops it has made throughout the day. If the vehicle is used after hours, you’ll be alerted instantly.

Drone XT
With the Drone XT, you’ll always know where your vehicles are.

Heavy equipment theft is a major issue. Protect your dozers, graders, excavators, compact track loaders and skid steers with this reliable and affordable solution.

For more information on the Drone XT GPS tracker, or to schedule an installation, contact your local authorized Drone retailer by visiting the dealer locator on the Drone website. Be sure to follow the Drone team on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to stay up-to-date with new product releases.

Product Spotlight: DroneMobile XC Connected Dashcam Security System

DroneMobile XC

Thieves frequently target vehicles from Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Lexus, RAM, Chevrolet, and Honda. These vehicles are often stolen for their parts or exported overseas. Well-integrated anti-theft systems like those from Compustar greatly reduce the chances that a thief will drive off in your vehicle. However, vehicle owners have long sought the ability to monitor their vehicle and its surroundings using their smartphone. The DroneMobile XC connected dash cam is the perfect solution. Let’s check it out!

What is DroneMobile?

DroneMobile is a smartphone interface created by Firstech, the parent company of Compustar and Arctic Start. DroneMobile allows you to use an app on your smartphone to communicate with, monitor and control your vehicle from almost anywhere on the planet. If the shock sensor on your Compustar alarm is triggered, the DroneMobile app will notify you within seconds. If someone opens a door, you’ll get an alert. If a thief is trying to cut off a catalytic converter, you’ll know about it.

DroneMobile hardware works with a remote car starter or security system to add smartphone control. Door lock, trunk release, and, when applicable, remote starter activation are as simple as tapping the screen of your Android-based smartphone or iPhone. The communication is bidirectional, so you’ll be advised when the command is executed. This feedback lets you know the car is locked and safe in your driveway for the evening.

DroneMobile XC is the only dash cam we’ve reviewed that offers this level of functionality and integration with aftermarket remote start or alarm systems.

DroneMobile XC
With a DroneMobile and a Compustar remote car starter, you can lock, unlock, or remote start your car or truck from anywhere your phone has cellular or Internet service.

GPS Locating Services

The DroneMobile system offers services at various feature levels. The basic package provides door lock and remote start control. You also get security alerts from an optional (but highly recommended) DAS-II security sensor. This means that impact, motion, or tilting will result in a nearly instant phone notification. You can also monitor the temperature inside the vehicle and keep an eye on battery voltage.

Upgrading to one of the Premium plans adds location-based alerts and monitoring. If the system reports that your vehicle has moved from where you parked it without authorization, you can tap the map screen to view its current location. You can set Geofences around specific areas to monitor usage. Several of the top programs include full breadcrumb trail tracking with turn-by-turn updates.

DroneMobile XC
GPS-based locating services allow you to monitor the location of your vehicle at any time.

High-Speed Communication

One of DroneMobile’s best features is its speed. Factory-installed smartphone control systems, such as MyMazda, can take more than 30 seconds to relay a command to the vehicle. It’s incredibly frustrating to have to wait that long. DroneMobile uses the fastest LTE services and Amazon cloud servers to execute a command in a second or two. Often, they can be faster than a key fob remote control. That’s truly impressive.

Live Video Feed

What makes the DroneMobile XC so special is its integrated camera system. It includes a Sony Starvis 2K QHD camera that monitors everything in front of the vehicle while you are driving. Videos are stored on an included 64GB microSD memory card.

What sets the XC apart from other dashcams is that it can use the onboard LTE modem to transmit video to the DroneMobile app on your smartphone. Using artificial intelligence, your phone can warn you when someone walks in front of your vehicle. You can turn on the video feed to see who is lurking around your vehicle. You can even speak with them. If it’s the neighbor kids, you can ask them to be careful around your pride and joy. If it’s someone more nefarious, you can alert them that the police have been notified and that the vehicle is being tracked.

The DroneMobile XC features many of the same capabilities as the DAS-II security sensor. So, impact, tilt, motion or glass breakage will immediately trigger an alert.

DroneMobile XC
The DroneMobile XC allows you to see what the camera sees in real time.

DroneMobile XC Installation

The DroneMobile XC mounts to the front windshield and can be mostly hidden behind the rearview mirror. It starts recording video as soon as the vehicle is started. Your DroneMobile retailer can add the optional RC1 rear camera to capture what’s happening behind your car or truck as you drive. Another option is the IR1 interior camera. A second camera capturing what’s happening inside the vehicle is a wise investment if you drive a taxi, limousine, Uber, Lyft, or other rideshare service. The IR1 includes infrared LEDs, so it can see in the dark without lighting up the interior. Only one additional camera can be added to the DroneMobile XC.

For the DroneMobile XC to control your vehicle, you need a remote car starter or security system from Compustar or one of its sister products. This system must be integrated into your car or truck to monitor door locks, the hood, trunk and ignition. If you want remote starter features, then a controller with remote start functionality and a vehicle data interface will be required.

A local authorized DroneMobile and Compustar retailer can tell you the total cost of the system, including professional installation and configuration. Likewise, they can review the prices for the DroneMobile XC service plans to help you choose an option that provides the features you desire.

Drone XC-LTE

If you’re a regular visitor to BestCarAudio.com, you should be familiar with dash cams and smartphone-based remote vehicle control solutions like Drone. Imagine combining the features of both units into one product and then adding live video streaming capabilities! The new Drone XC-LTE 2K QHD dash cam with LTE, GPS and Wi-Fi does precisely that. Let’s check it out!

What Is the Drone XC-LTE Dash Cam?

There are a lot of features and design elements to unpack with the Drone XC-LTE. The unit has a footprint of 4.2 by 2.8 inches with a thickness of 1.5 inches. A vertical mounting orientation on the windshield minimizes obstruction.

Drone XC-LTE
The XC-LTE mounts vertically on the windshield to stay out of your line of sight.

The XC-LTE uses a Sony STARVIS image sensor for excellent contrast and low-light performance. The sensor is mated to a wide 154-degree lens to allow recording well off to the sides of the vehicle. The camera records at a 2K Quad HD resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels at 30 frames per second. A built-in Wi-Fi transceiver lets you download stored videos to your smartphone.

Firstech includes a high-quality 64 GB microSD memory card to ensure reliable recording. Upgrading to a 128 or 256 GB memory card allows the system to store more data. The system also accepts a secondary camera input signal. Your installer can add the XC-RC100 rear-facing or the XC-IR100 infrared interior cameras. The interior camera is very popular with taxi, Uber and Lyft operators. The parking mode feature allows it to monitor the visible area continuously and then record when something or someone enters its field of vision.

Drone XC-LTE
The optional XC-RC100 rear-facing camera allows the Drone XC-LTE to capture video of what happens behind your vehicle.

What makes this dash cam unique is the ability to view live video on the DroneMobile app on your smartphone using an LTE cellular data connection. You can see exactly what the camera sees on your phone. The system uses an LTE data connection to transmit video. As long as your phone can access the cellular data network, it doesn’t matter where it’s parked or driving. Remote live-viewing capability is a feature people have been requesting for years.

Drone XC-LTE
The DroneMobile app provides access to a live video feed from your Drone XC-LTE dash cam.

Regarding live-feed details, the video stream has a resolution of 960 by 540 pixels. Depending on your chosen service package, you get 1 or 2 GB of cloud storage for important videos you tag via the DroneMobile app.

Drone Vehicle Control

While the excitement of the remote video viewing is the highlight of the Drone XC-LTE, it’s crucial to remember that this is still a Drone vehicle control interface. When paired with a compatible control module from Compustar, Arctic Start, FTX or NuStart, you can use the DroneMobile app on your phone to lock and unlock your vehicle or start the engine. You can even pop the trunk or open a sliding door or motorized hatch in many applications.

Drone XC-LTE
The updated DroneMobile app retains lock, unlock, remote start and auxiliary control features.

The Drone XC-LTE acts like the DAS-II sensor to detect impact, tilt, motion and glass breakage. Any of these triggers will instantly send a notification to your smartphone. You can use the LTE streaming feature of the dash cam to look around your vehicle to find out what’s going on. The DroneMobile app also allows you to trigger the Panic feature to scare away would-be thieves or the neighbor’s cat.

Drone XC-LTE
The Drone system pushes security alerts to your smartphone so you’ll know immediately when someone is tampering with your vehicle.

The system also functions as a vehicle-locating or -tracking solution with one of the GPS-enabled Drone service plans. You can configure speed-based warnings to monitor vehicle operation. Location-based notifications, often called geofencing, are also available. These warnings tell you when the vehicle enters or exits a specific area or location.

The Drone’s GPS receiver provides location and speed-based warnings on your smartphone.

See Why Your Car Alarm Triggered

Most of us are familiar with hearing car alarm sirens, getting a security alert from a two-way remote key fob or perhaps seeing an alarm notification on our smartphones. We all want to know what is happening in and around the vehicle. With the new XC-LTE, you can open the DroneMobile app and see what the cameras see in real time. There’s no need to leave the house or your office. You could be on vacation in the Caribbean and check on your car or truck from the pool while sipping a mojito or enjoying a beer.

The XC-LTE is ideal for commercial equipment left on a job site or in a company-owned service or delivery vehicle. The XC-LTE is a perfect solution if you rent your car or truck on Turo or Getaround and want to see where and how the renter uses your vehicle.

The Best Vehicle Monitoring and Control Solution

The Drone XC-LTE is the first aftermarket dash cam solution with live view capabilities that can integrate with a car alarm or remote start system to provide vehicle control and monitoring. You can also use the system as a stand-alone dash cam with remote live viewing. Your local Compustar retailer can explain the remote control and live-view service plans and the features they offer. To find an authorized Drone retailer near you, use the locator tool on their website. For more information about Drone solutions, visit their YouTube channel, Facebook page or Instagram. Nice staff and honor their work

Audio Crew did some work for me about 2yrs ago. A speaker they installed wasn't working properly. They checked it out and problem was a corroded wire. They fixed the problem and told me no charge for the repair. Very nice of them to do that as problem wasn't their fault in the first place. Audio Crew have a nice staff and honor their work.

VERY HONEST and PROFESSIONAL company

I purchased a 2019 used car for my wife and she wanted a remote started installed. I went to Audio Crew, who I had dealt with before, got a price and made an appointment. We dropped the car off the night before, for the appointment with a request that they call us when ready. Early the next morning, I received a call telling me that there was good news!! The car already had a remote starter which was programmed into the factory remote. We only need to press the "lock" button three times to star the car!! The dealer who sold us the car was not aware of that, it was a pleasant surprise to us and a $350 savings. THANK YOU to a VERY HONEST and PROFESSIONAL company.

Absolutely the best service

Absolutely the best service you will get anywhere. They go above and beyond! Can’t recommend them more! They fixed our issue quickly. Super friendly and helpful. Will not buy anywhere else.

Great Service
